Celebrate Your Friendships | Raleigh Portrait Photographer

” A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words “

When I reflect on my life at the ripe old age of 31 some of the moments that stand out the most are those I’ve spent with my best friends. My friends who know my weaknesses but love me anyway, who’ve celebrates my victories & you have mourned my losses, my friends who have allowed me to grow and move and developed but love me in spite of it all.  I think about all the women along the way who have befriended me and helped me, encouraged me and inspired me. Life is defiantly not meant to experience alone, I love to help inspire other women, to show them their beauty, and help them celebrate with the other women in their life you they consider  their best friends! Celebrate your friendships, exists in photos, inspire each other to greatness.

The image below are few of my best friends, girls that have known me since age 14, an image I took when I 1st started to specialize in Portraits for Women, the memory of this day together comes roaring back every time I look at it! The rare moment we were able to plan a girls weekend in between marriages, and toddlers and pregnancy. We spent 1/2 of this weekend in our pj’s, eating ice creams, watching the remake of dirty dancing, talking and laughing.

Mothers Day – My Momma | Raleigh Portrait Photographer

” Grown don’t mean nothing to a mother. a child is a child. they get bigger, older, but grown? what’s that supposed to mean? in my heart it don’t mean a thing.”

– toni morrison, beloved, 1987

As soon as I thought I was “grown” (which was probably 14ish) I can remember rolling my eyes and telling my mother ” yes mom, I’m xyz age, I know” huffing and puffing around like she has some nerve trying to worry over me, I mean really, can you believe that a mother would worry over her daughter? how ridiculous, right!:)

well, now that i’m at the ripe old age of 30, i’m seeing my friends have children, i’m gaining nieces and nephews and for the first time in my life i think i understand just a little bit what it means to worry like a mom.

this mothers day i celebrate my mom. the mom who from age 5 when i was diagnosed with dyslexia refused to allow me to think i was stupid. who sat with me hours on end teaching me the proper way to write letters, or how the piano notes were really going up and not down. the mom who told me that one day i’d be wildly successful if i just worked hard. the mom who found me my first job. who let me drag her around purdue even sitting standing in the front row of the student section to watch my favorite sport, football. the mom who didn’t flinch when i told her i was moving thousands of miles away to dallas, but i’m sure was crying when we hung up. the mom who’s faithfully moved me and visited me in every random city i’ve lived in for the past 8 years. and the mom who has always told me to follow my dreams, even if they are unconventional, a little scary, and a big risk. she’s always the first person to ask how she can help and is definitely my biggest cheerleader.

  – thank you mom for being you, for your big heart and unconditional love.  i love you

mom’s are usually not fan’s of having their portraits taken but i wanted to show my mother just how beautiful she is and give her an afternoon of pampering. so after a little convincing she allowed it.
